Privacy Policy
Africa Resource Centre (ARC) knows that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate you trusting that we will do so carefully and sensibly. This Privacy Policy explains our practices and the choices you can make about how your information is collected and used by ARC. It applies what we collect both online and offline.
SECTION 1 – WHAT DO WE DO WITH YOUR INFORMATION?
When you voluntarily submit it to us, we collect personal information for items such as registering on the platform, mailing list, pledge, downloading a form or volunteer position. We collect the personal information you give us, such as your name, address and email address. Providing data is required in these contexts to process your requests or respond to inquiries.
In addition to the personal information that you submit to us, we may collect personal information about you from reputable third parties or automatically collect information using the following technologies:
Web Server Logs. When you browse our site, we automatically receive your computer’s internet protocol (IP) address to provide us with information that helps us learn about your browser and operating system. Our web servers may collect information such as IP address, pages visited, time of visits, and referring website.
Cookies. Cookies are simple text files stored by your web browser that provide a method of distinguishing among donors and visitors to the website. ARC uses cookies to identify your browser as you visit pages on the ARC website or sites in the ARC media network. Cookies also allow ARC to provide more relevant, targeted content as you travel through sites in the ARC media network as appropriate.
Email marketing (if applicable): With your permission, we may send you emails about our work, new partnerships or regions and other updates.
We collect information primarily to complete our charitable projects and provide you with information concerning our programs, projects, and activities. We also use the information for analytical purposes, to improve our website, donor base, outreach, or respond to information requests. We may inform you of other purposes when we collect some forms of information. For example, if you apply for a job, we may collect information to process your job application.
We do not trade, share, or sell the information you provide to us with other organizations who intend to use it only to market their products or services to you.
There may be instances in which we share your information with others. We may share your information, for example, in conjunction with your sponsorship of a certain project, as required by law, with law enforcement, to comply with legal process, to protect our legal rights, to protect the safety or security of a person, or to protect against fraud, criminal acts, or misconduct. We may also share your information with companies that provide us with services, or with a successor legal entity.
SECTION 2 – CONSENT
How do you get my consent?
When you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction, we imply that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only.
If we ask for your personal information for a secondary reason, like marketing, we will either ask you directly for your expressed consent or provide you with an opportunity to say no.
How do I withdraw my consent?
If after you opt-in, you change your mind, you may withdraw your consent for us to contact you, for the continued collection, use or disclosure of your information, at any time, by contacting us at community@africaresourcecentre.org or mailing us at: Africa Resource Centre, Workshop 17, 17 Dock Road V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, 8001, South Africa.
SECTION 3 – DISCLOSURE
We may disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so or if you violate our Terms of Service.
SECTION 4 – THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
In general, the third-party providers used by us will only collect, use and disclose your information to the extent necessary to allow them to perform the services they provide to us.
However, certain third-party service providers, such as payment gateways and other payment transaction processors, have their own privacy policies regarding the information we are required to provide to them for your purchase-related transactions.
For these providers, we recommend that you read their privacy policies to understand how these providers will handle your personal information.
In particular, remember that certain providers may be located in or have facilities that are located in a different jurisdiction than either you or us. So, if you elect to proceed with a transaction that involves the services of a third-party service provider, then your information may become subject to the laws of the jurisdiction(s) in which that service provider or its facilities are located.
For example, if you are in Ghana and your transaction is processed by a payment gateway located in the United States. Your personal information used in completing that transaction may be subject to disclosure under United States legislation, including the Patriot Act.
Once you leave our website or are redirected to a third-party website or application, you are no longer governed by this Privacy Policy or our website’s Terms of Service.
Behavioural Advertising
We may participate in behavioural-based advertising. This means that a third party may use technology (e.g., a cookie) to collect information about your use of our website so that they can provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interest. That advertising may appear either on our website or on other websites.

When you click on links on our site, they may direct you away from our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and encourage you to read their privacy statements.
SECTION 5 – SECURITY
To protect your personal information, we take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed.

We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time, so please review it frequently. Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon their posting on the website. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here that it has been updated so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we use and/or disclose it.
